Olivia Richards
I have, and suspect I always will, have an innate desire to explore what it means to be human. My approach to therapy reflects this, as I encourage my clients to approach themselves and their own lives with a sense of curiosity as well. As a therapist, my primary goal is to ensure that my clients feel heard and are comfortable to open up during sessions, thus laying the groundwork for exploration of their inner world.
I work collaboratively with my clients, with an aim to help them adapt, adjust, and overcome a wide range of problems that they may be experiencing. My approach is integrative in nature, incorporating different theoretical orientations and therapeutic strategies to fit each particular client.
I am interested in helping individuals across the lifespan with a range of presenting problems, including but not limited to:depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and recovery from traumatic experiences. I approach everyone with empathy, non- judgment, and a willingness to explore their lived experiences, emotions, and goals. In therapy we will discuss both past and present experiences with the focus of helping you understand your habits and coping mechanisms and translate this knowledge into developing healthier mindsets and behaviours. My focus is to be fully present with the client, to provide unconditional positive regard, to accept you as you are, and to provide empathy and support. My hope is that this will allow you to explore your feelings openly and feel supported throughout our work together.
I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Clinical Psychology Program at Western University. I received my master’s degree in clinical psychology from Western University, an additional master’s degree in experimental psychology from Carleton University, and my honours bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in neuroscience and mental health from Carleton University. During my time as Ph.D. candidate, I have had practicum opportunities in St. Josephs’ Parkwood Mental Health Clinic, and the Thames Valley District Schoolboard. I am currently also working at another private practice in London, ON, where I complete assessment and intervention work.
